A short term study of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease by David Clemmons, chief of endocrinology at the University
of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill discovered
that a mere 3 weeks of HGH treatment actually reversed the decline
in breathing capacity. These patients were in the last stages
of their disease with significant weight loss and the ability
to expand their lungs during breathing. In this study HGH raised
the maximum inspiratory force by 10 to 12 millimeters on average
and also increased the maximum expiratory force. For patients
in this condition going from 25 millimeters to 38 millimeters
is a very big help and shows promising treatment for emphysema
and other chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.

In fact there is now research that shows that growth hormone re
grows lung tissue and restores respiratory function. Also, because
HGH makes the heart a better pump by multiplying the number of
heart cells and increasing the thickness of the left ventricle
wall it enhances the ability of one to exercise by raising maximum
oxygen uptake, stroke volume and cardiac output. HGH increases
the most significant measurement of lung function known as FEV1
or vital capacity. Vital capacity is the total volume of air expelled
from the lungs by breathing out as hard as one can. It is the
ability to force air from the lungs in one second by breathing
out as hard as one can after breathing in as hard as one can.

One study by Bengtsson and Rosen found no improvement after HGH
administration for 6 months, however, after 1 year of HGH treatment
the vital capacity improved which reversed the deterioration in
lung function. Vital capacity declines in a straight line with
age and is regarded as one of the best indicators of how long
a person will live. So here we have HGH altering one of the most
significant bio markers of longevity and aging. It has also been
observed by Dr. Baxas that patients on HGH can hold their breath
under water longer. The increased ability in patients with lung
disease for breathing capacity is most likely due to HGH causing
the lung to grow and increase in size.
